For this project, I rebranded a local business, Miramar Martial Arts Academy, located in San Diego. I spent most of my youth there training Tang Soo Do, a Korean martial art, and I thought the studio could benefit from a visual rebranding.

Meeting with the owner, I was able to assess their core values, audience, mission, and competitors. A deep dive into their website and social media revealed some inconsistencies and a lack of visual cohesiveness that I felt I could improve in my rebranding solution.

I created a new unique logo inspired by elements of the South Korean flag and traditional ink stamps. The new logo combines traditional Korean design motifs with a clean and modern aesthetic that separates them from the cliché martial arts logo of a “flying kick figure”. After this, I was able to create a cohesive design system that reflected the core values of the martial arts studio.
